Stuck In Free Fall

Stuck In Free Fall is a show about Nothing.

In this genre-bending solo performance Nicola celebrates the contribution that Nothing- a feeling, state, need, or otherwise- has made to our individual psyches and the collective unconscious. As she guides the audience through a wild, experimental, and thought-provoking collective reading of her artist book, a ritual is born. Featuring dance, poetry, and love letters to the void, Stuck In Free Fall insists that Nothing- invisible, impossible, and accessed only through imagination- invites us to believe in belief and trust the unknown.

Stuck In Free Fall premiered in 2022 at ICI-CCN Montpellier studios as part of my MFA thesis. It was subsequently performed at the University of the Arts studios (Philadelphia, PA), Das Gift (Berlin, DE), the American Dance Festival Studios (Durham, NC), and the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Stuck In Free Fall is also a book

A series of letters between two unknown beings, with one of them referred to as “nothing,” Stuck In Free Fall explores the sensation of existence in the void. Surprisingly intimate, nothing – with no fear and nothing to prove – releases certainty, dismisses meaning, and re-centers imagination and felt sense before dissolving, like smoke rights, back into the darkness.
