What happens when dreams and reality collide? In an original solo dance-theater work, choreographer and performer Nicola Bullock offers audiences an experience that explores the ground between what we are and what we imagine ourselves to be. A masked creature awakens in an unfamiliar world, cringes at the sight of light, and moves its alien body for the first time. As it gradually morphs into a more recognizable form - a human body - its animal instincts contend with social constructions of femininity, ageing, and desire. Bound by the rigidity of these concepts, the creature struggles to adopt “identity-appropriate” behavior while remaining connected to its wild nature. Inspired by science-fiction, Greek mythology, Impressionist paintings, and Golden-Era movies, IMAGO draws viewers into a space where truth and illusion are inseparable.
